I hate off hand remarks like this:

this quirky, dreamlike film dates from a time when a greater range of stylistic options were available to independent filmmakers

Excuse me? As far as I can see, filmmakers (independent or otherwise) have all the options they ever had, and more. If some of them lack imagination in the techniques they choose, well then, don’t watch their films.

Okay, with that off my chest… 

Alan Rudolph’s quirky and dreamlike Trouble In Mind was one of our favorite films in 1985. Now that it’s on DVD, we’re curious to see how it holds up, a quarter century later.
